Is restricting Fishing In California the Right thing?
The Fish and Game Commision decided to ban all fishing between Santa Barbara and Half Moon Bay in California to help perserve the marine life. This ban is to help perserve some of the marine life that is deminishing from the demands on fishing. It could mean less fresh fish that the tourist come for. Is it right?

How do you balance human need against the environmental need? If we want these fish and the fishing industry, in all forms (deep water charters, crabbing, shrimping, etc.)to survive for our kids, restrictions must be in place. But how do you balance that environmental need against a fishing family that is also on food stamps because the money they make has to go to the higher cost of doing that fishing (fuel, insurance, bait that had to be caught by someone else, maintenance, etc.)? With all of these restrictions, who is really suffering? Farmers are subsidised, are we going to now subsidise the fisherman that are about to be put out of business? They provide us with food, just as the farmers do. On the reverse of that, how can we allow the fisherman of the world the right to have un-regulated control over our oceans and the creatures there? That was tried once and it nearly wiped out the whales.
